Train or plane that is the question
"Someday soon we may be able to travel on rail between India and China in the East, and Bulgaria in the West." claimed The Times of India editorial a couple of days ago. The editorial was aptly titled "Rail Romance." I read it in plane.Travelling by plane saves you time and money. It saves you money as you don't have to stay in the hotels if you ju... more...

Dubbing
Nowadays some Hollywood movies are dubbed in Hindi. I hate dubbed movies. May be because for a long time I stayed in a country where every movie you see on TV is dubbed. So if you don't know the local language, you can't watch a single film. In Europe usually all movies are dubbed in the local language. One has to check before going to a theatre fo... more...

Chicken comes from supermarket
"I have become vegetarian" came the reply to my question to a senior American professor visiting our institute for a year. I usually see him eating chapati, sabji, dal and rice. I asked him are you a vegetarian?I thought may be he has turned vegetarian because of availability of vegetarian food or inavailability of less spicy non-veg food. After as... more...

Women's day
In Pune, few years ago Pune Municipal Transport (PMT) had started women only buses. The idea seemed commendable. The driver and conductor were men. PMT usually drives antique buses and they take unplanned breaks anywhere in the city. For few days these special buses were plying all around the city. One fine day one bus broke down on the main road. T... more...

Wednesday
I don't like Wednesday that much. It neither welcomes the new week nor brings us to the end of the week. So on Wednesday people usually are in the grumpy mood. I did not appreciate the essay topics like "What if every day had been a Sunday?" in the school but now I can see why our teachers came up with such topics. Today I experience this as all ... more...

We don't value our lives - Part III
The lack of affordable public transportation in Pune has forced the residents in finding innovative ways of travelling. I discussed travelling by Indicabs in the last blog. There is another cheap way to travel in the outskirts of the city: Six-Seaters.The name is misleading as the vehicle transports anywhere from 10 to 14 people at one time. Simila... more...

We don't value our lives - Part II
Pune is devoid of any public transportation facilities, complain the software professionals coming from outside of Pune. It is almost true. There are very few busses at the office timings, that's all. The autowallahs will try to rob you by charging at least twice the legal fare. The software companies and call centers have solved this problem for t... more...

We don't value our lives
On Saturday while going back from work I saw few tractors carrying sugarcane from fields to the sugar factories. This is a usual site near Pune Infotech park. Two three kids were running after it to get a piece of the sugarcane for free. I said to myself may be they cannot afford to buy the same sugarcane for Rs. 5 in the shop so they are trying to... more...

AXN is back
"AXN is back" bang came the advertisement. AXN shows many questionable programs, but same is the case with many Hindi channels. The ban on the channel for two months was unreasonable.AXN also shows very good programs like Numb3rs. It also has programs on crime investigation, which are shot professionally and make sense compared to their counterpart... more...

Nishabd
Yesterday night I watched CNN-IBN, Sagarika Bose's show, namely discussion on Nishabd and take of Indian population on unconventional relations. It was a strange discussion as the movie was not yet released so nobody could talk about the director's view on the contents of the movie. One particular question/comment puzzled me, are Indian movies dis... more...

Jab We Met
Jab We Met Never in my entire life had I felt such a strong urge to get away by myself somewhere, anywhere, far from the daily grind. I realized that I badly needed a break if I were to be able to function normally without the bitterness and the grouses. Something else that had been brewing up for a while, suddenly failed to materialize, and I felt...  more...

Who's Da BOSS...?!
All the organs of the body were having a meeting,       trying to decide who was the one in charge.      "I should be in charge," said the brain ,       "Because I run all the body's systems,        so without me nothing would happen."       "I should be in charge," said the blood ,      "Because I circulate oxygen all over       so without me you'...  more...

Dreams
Each one of us has been endowed with the innate capacity to dream. We begin dreaming very early in life as kids.  All of us recollect those times in ourchildhood, can’t we, when we dreamed of wanting to excel in our studies or ofhaving that special toy and when it did materialize, what was it that we felt? A feeling of joy, ecstasy? A dream come t...  more...

The Sunday Paper (Complete Version)
As Sorabjee made his way down the wooden stairs, he took extreme care to do it as noiselessly as possible.  With his left palm firmly on the banister, he placed his feet very carefully on the rungs, much like one blows softly into a lover’s eye. He descended the stairs in steps of ones and twos, halting after every six rungs to catch some breath, a...  more...

Why God allows pain
This is one of the best explanations of why God allows pain and suffering that I have seen... A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barb...  more...

Sleepless in ......
I have always been a dreamer. But, these days I am not even able to sleep properly. A constant irritation itches on in my mind and I know not where it comes from. As a child, our own Doctor Uncle used to point out that diagnosis was pivotal to medication. I somehow found a deeper meaning in those words in connection to our daily lives even when I wa...  more...

HAPPINESS AND SUCCESS
Happiness and success are two concepts intertwined with one another. These are two of the most important ingredients that would eventually define a person’s life. If one would think about it, happiness and success are two things that are relative to a person’s point of view since these are dependent on one’s ideologies. Happiness and success relate...  more...

Why are they called stairs inside but steps outside? Why, any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner?  If love is blind, how can we believe in love at first sight?  Why 'abbreviated' is such a long word? How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?  Why, when you change...  more...

Do not be amused.                                                             This might be reality in future. people may prefer sending smses to GOD rather going to crowded temples and then praying.
